CSC CHIGAMIK CHC Launches French Health Care System Navigation Initiative
Midland, Ontario – November 10, 2015 – The Centre de santé communautaire CHIGAMIK Community Health Centre is pleased to announce a new French health care system navigation pilot project serving the Francophone community of North Simcoe Muskoka, beginning this Fall.
The pilot project’s objective is to measure the impact of the service by researching the development of an efficient, sustainable navigation model that can be applied to different areas. The French Language System Navigator’s role is to help guide Francophone clients towards French language health services that are adapted to meet their specific needs.
“We want to improve the health and well-being of our Francophone clients by steering them towards services that will take their language and culture into consideration,” said David Jeffery, Executive Director, CSC CHIGAMIK CHC.
Funded by Health Canada through the Société Santé en français and stemming from INTACC[1], the pilot project is a collaborative effort by Entité 4, the French Health Network of Central Southwestern Ontario (RFSSO), and CSC CHIGAMIK CHC with the involvement of North Simcoe Muskoka Local Health Integration Network (NSM LHIN).
“Entité 4 wishes to congratulate the CSC CHIGAMIK CHC on its commitment to improving access to French language health care services in the area,” said Estelle Duchon, Executive Director, Entité 4. “We are pleased with the hiring of a Francophone navigator and will continue to work collaboratively on this project.”
“We are proud to have the opportunity to work closely with our regional partners to identify a navigational model for Francophone communities that will highlight the key conditions for the success of an equitable and accessible health care system,” said Julie Lantaigne, Executive Director, RFSSO.
“Congratulations to CSC CHIGAMIK CHC on the implementation of this new and innovative approach for helping Francophone residents access French language health care services in their community,” said Jill Tettmann, Chief Executive Officer, North Simcoe Muskoka LHIN.
